Analytics Query Tool - Excel Web Queries
Web Queries created within Excel are only supported on Windows. They are used to dynamically import Google Analytics data through ShufflePoint into an Excel cell range. These cell ranges can then be bound to charts and formatted tables.
Login Status
The Web Query process is initiated within Excel by clicking Data / Import External Data / New Web Query to create a new Web Query. This opens a browser window within Excel, with which you go to http://www.shufflepoint.com/feed.
Upon logging in you will see the “Login Status” page. Check the yellow box above the word “User:” and click the “Import” button at the bottom of the Excel browser window. We recommend that this is always done once per spreadsheet to avoid confusion over what defaults are currently in effect.
Session Defaults
Right click on the cell containing the “Login Status” Web Query and select “Edit Query...”. This will bring up the “Login Status” page. Click the “Change session defaults” link to change the Profile or Timeframe defaults.
After making your changes, click the “Change” button to save the changes and return to the “Login Status” page. Check the yellow box above the word “User:” and click the “Import” button at the bottom of the Excel browser window. The changes will now be reflected within Excel.
The default Profile and Timeframe are initially based on the settings found within the “My ShufflePoint” page's “Google Analytics” link.
Web Query
Within Excel, click Data / Import External Data / New Web Query to create a new query. This opens a browser window within Excel, with which you go back to www.shufflepoint.com/feed (Hint: use the history control on the right side of the address bar to reselect that page). You will see the same screen as when you logged in. Click "New query in AQL Studio" to launch the Analytics Query Tool.
Once you have successfully created and executed a query, click the “Continue” button at the bottom right. This will bring up the “Query Import” page. Check the yellow box above the phrase “Data table selector” and click the “Import” button at the bottom of the Excel browser window.
Web Query Options
Click the “Options...” button in the upper-right corner of a Web Query window to open the Options dialog. Under the Formatting section, choose “Rich text formatting only” to have your imported data be properly formatted. No changes are necessary for the other settings and the default values should be kept.
Refreshing Queries
When you open your spreadsheet with Excel at a later date, right click on the "Login Status Query" and select Edit Query. This will bring up the login screen. Upon login, you will be shown the current session settings screen. It is a good practice to select the status table and import it into Excel. And remember to check and optionally change you session defaults.
